Compare granite kitchen colours
Take a cabinet, wall and backsplash sample when comparing granite. View the surface in the intended finish and ask for photographs of full slabs under similar lighting. A small sample can hide changes in mineral pattern across the kitchen run.
| Selection | Visual starting point | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute Black | A restrained black kitchen surface. | Shade, finish and consistency between the proposed slabs. |
| Black Galaxy | A dark base with visible flecking. | The size and distribution of the flecks across the lot. |
| Steel Grey | A grey palette for lighter or darker cabinetry. | Pattern scale and the appearance of the chosen finish. |
| Tan Brown | A warmer brown-and-dark mineral pattern. | How the actual batch relates to timber, paint and the backsplash. |
You can also compare Rajasthan Black, Lakha Red, Jhansi Red and Sadarahalli Grey. Confirm availability and application details for the proposed stone, rather than selecting on the trade name alone.
Prepare your kitchen platform measurements
- Draw every straight run, return and island with finished length and depth.
- Mark walls, exposed ends, corners and any overhangs.
- Provide the sink and hob manufacturer's model information and cut-out templates.
- Identify tap holes, backsplash or upstand dimensions and visible edges.
- Have the fabricator confirm the final site measurements, support and installation details.
For an L-shaped kitchen, mark both arms and the corner arrangement. For an island, identify which sides are visible and where the supporting cabinetry sits. Do not order cut-outs from an approximate appliance photograph.
Agree joints, edges and cut-outs
Ask the fabricator to show proposed seams on the measured plan. Slab sizes, access and the kitchen shape influence where joints are placed. Review pattern direction across adjoining pieces before cutting.
Choose an edge profile using a drawing or sample and identify all exposed edges. If the design uses a built-up edge, ask how it is constructed and finished. Sink mounting, hob clearances, support and any overhang should follow the appliance guidance and the project professional's approved details.
Granite countertop price: compare the complete scope
A raw-slab rate per sq ft does not automatically include a fitted kitchen platform. Obtain the stone specification and usable quantity, then list site measurement, cutting, edge profiling, sink and hob cut-outs, holes, joints, polishing, transport and fitting separately.
Area example: a rectangular counter measuring 10 ft × 2 ft has a surface area of 20 sq ft. Actual slab quantity can be higher because of the cutting layout and usable pieces. Cut-outs, edges, backsplash and installation are separate quote items unless agreed otherwise.
When comparing quotes, check whether the unit is square foot, running foot or a complete package. A running-foot rate needs an agreed depth, thickness and fabrication scope to be meaningful.
Plan care and handover
At installation handover, ask which cleaning products are suitable for the chosen stone and whether any sealer or other treatment has been applied. Use boards and trivets as part of normal surface care, and deal with spills promptly. Keep the written material and fabrication specification with the order.

Which granite is best for my kitchen?
Choose from the actual available slabs around your colour palette, finish preference, fabrication requirements and budget. There is no single variety that is best for every kitchen.
